Step 1: Preparation

Step 2: Measuring and Cutting

Measure the length of each stair tread and cut the stair noses to fit. Use a miter saw or a sharp utility knife to create clean, precise cuts. Ensure that the stair nose is wide enough to cover the edge of the step and extend slightly over the nose of the tread.

Step 3: Applying Adhesive

Apply a thin layer of construction adhesive to the back of the stair nose. Use a notched trowel to create an even spread of adhesive.

Step 4: Positioning the Stair Nose

Carefully position the stair nose on the edge of the step, aligning it with the cut line. Press down firmly to ensure good contact between the adhesive and the subfloor.

Step 5: Nailing the Stair Nose

To secure the stair nose further, use 1½-inch nails to nail it into place. Drive the nails through the predrilled holes in the stair nose, ensuring they are flush with the surface.

Step 6: Finishing

Once the stair noses are installed on all the stairs, allow the adhesive to dry completely. Trim any excess adhesive that may have squeezed out during installation. For a polished finish, you can use a caulk gun to apply caulk along the joints between the stair nose and the tread.
