Laying Laminate Flooring On Concrete With Underfloor Heating

Laminate flooring is a popular choice for homes with concrete subfloors, and it can be installed over underfloor heating systems. However, there are a few things you need to keep in mind when installing laminate flooring over concrete with underfloor heating.

First, you need to make sure that the concrete subfloor is level and smooth. Any unevenness in the subfloor can cause the laminate flooring to buckle or crack. You can level the subfloor using a self-leveling compound.

Once the subfloor is level, you need to install an underlayment. The underlayment will help to protect the laminate flooring from moisture and it will also help to reduce noise. There are a variety of underlayments available, so be sure to choose one that is compatible with your laminate flooring and underfloor heating system.

Now you are ready to install the laminate flooring. Start by laying out the first row of planks along one wall. Be sure to leave a small gap between the planks and the wall to allow for expansion. Once the first row is in place, you can continue laying the rest of the planks, working your way across the room.

When you get to the last row, you may need to cut the planks to fit. Use a sharp saw to make clean cuts. Once all of the planks are in place, you can install the molding around the edges of the room.

Here are some additional tips for installing laminate flooring over concrete with underfloor heating:

  • Make sure that the underfloor heating system is turned off before you start installing the laminate flooring.
  • Allow the laminate flooring to acclimate to the room temperature for at least 24 hours before you start installing it.
  • Do not install laminate flooring over radiant heat systems that operate at a temperature higher than 85 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Use a moisture barrier between the underlayment and the laminate flooring.
  • Leave a small gap between the laminate flooring and the walls to allow for expansion.
  • Install the molding around the edges of the room to secure the laminate flooring.
