Installing Laminate Flooring Under Door Frames: A Step-by-Step Guide

Installing laminate flooring is a great way to update the look of your home without breaking the bank. However, one of the challenges you may face is installing the flooring under door frames. Here is a step-by-step guide to help you through the process:

Laminate flooring
Underlayment
Door frame
Jamb saw
Tape measure
Pencil
Utility knife
Hammer

Step 1: Prepare the subfloor

The first step is to prepare the subfloor by removing any existing flooring or carpet. Make sure the subfloor is level and smooth. If necessary, use a level to check for any uneven areas and use a sander or planer to smooth them out.

Step 2: Install the underlayment

Once the subfloor is prepared, you can install the underlayment. The underlayment will help to protect the laminate flooring from moisture and provide a cushion for walking. Roll out the underlayment over the subfloor and tape the seams together.

Step 3: Measure and cut the laminate flooring

Next, you need to measure and cut the laminate flooring to fit under the door frame. Measure the distance from the edge of the door frame to the wall. Then, add 1/4 inch to the measurement to allow for expansion. Cut the laminate flooring to the measured length using a utility knife.

Step 4: Install the laminate flooring

Start by installing the laminate flooring at the far end of the room. Work your way back towards the door frame. Tap the laminate flooring pieces together until they are flush. Once you reach the door frame, cut the laminate flooring to fit around the frame using a jamb saw.

Step 5: Secure the laminate flooring

Once the laminate flooring is installed, you need to secure it in place. Use a hammer and nail set to nail the laminate flooring to the subfloor. Drive the nails through the tongue of the laminate flooring at an angle. Countersink the nails slightly below the surface of the flooring.

Step 6: Caulk the gaps

Finally, you need to caulk the gaps around the door frame and between the laminate flooring and the wall. This will help to seal out moisture and prevent the flooring from moving.
