Installing Allure Flooring Over Tile: A Step-by-Step Guide

Transforming your home with Allure flooring over existing tile is a budget-friendly and DIY-friendly project. Here's a comprehensive guide to help you achieve a seamless installation:

1. Surface Preparation

Begin by ensuring your tile surface is clean, dry, and level. Remove any loose grout or debris, and repair any damaged tiles. Use a level to check for any slopes or unevenness, which can affect flooring performance.

2. Tile Treatment

To ensure proper adhesion, your tiles need to be slightly roughened. Use a sanding block or sander to lightly abrade the top surface, creating a slightly textured finish. Alternatively, apply a thin layer of thinset mortar and allow it to dry, which will roughen the surface.

3. Underlayment Installation

Installing Allure flooring directly over tile is not recommended. Instead, use a sound-reducing underlayment, such as cork or foam, to minimize noise and improve comfort. Roll out the underlayment over the prepared tile surface, ensuring it is smooth and secure.

4. Allure Flooring Installation

Start installing the Allure flooring in a corner of the room. Peel back a few inches of the backing and align it with the wall. Press down firmly to engage the interlocking mechanism. Continue installing each plank by aligning its ends and pressing them together.

5. Expansion Gaps

Allow for expansion and contraction by leaving a small gap around the perimeter of the room. Use spacers to maintain a consistent gap of about 1/4 inch. Once the flooring is installed, remove the spacers and install baseboards or trim to cover the expansion gaps.

6. Transitions and Thresholds

If your Allure flooring connects to other types of flooring, such as carpet or hardwood, you'll need to install transitions or thresholds. These pieces will create a smooth and finished look between different floor coverings.

Tips for Success

  • Acclimate the Allure flooring to the room temperature for 24-48 hours before installation.
  • Use a tapping block or mallet to firmly connect the planks but avoid over-tapping.
  • Stagger the plank joints to enhance the interlocking strength.
  • If you encounter damaged planks during installation, cut them out and replace them with new planks.
  • Clean the installed flooring using a microfiber mop or vacuum cleaner.

By following these steps and tips, you can install Allure flooring over tile with confidence, creating a beautiful and durable floor.
