How to Work Out Area for Floor Tiles

Calculating the area of your floor is an essential step before purchasing tiles. This article will guide you through the process of determining the area of your floor in square feet, considering irregular shapes and obstacles.

Rectangular or Square Rooms

For rectangular or square rooms, simply multiply the length by the width to get the area. For example, if your room is 10 feet long and 8 feet wide, the area is 10 x 8 = 80 square feet.

Irregular Shapes

For irregularly shaped rooms, divide the room into smaller rectangles or triangles and calculate their areas separately. Then, add up the areas of all the shapes to get the total area. For example, if your room has an L-shape, divide it into two rectangles and calculate their areas individually.

Obstacles

If there are fixed obstacles such as fireplaces or pillars in your room, exclude their areas when calculating the floor area. Measure the length and width of the obstacles and subtract their areas from the total area.
