  • Stair nose
  • Underlayment
  • Construction adhesive
  • Caulk
  • Tapping block
  • Hammer
  • Circular saw or miter saw
  • Measuring tape
  • Pencil

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Prepare the Stairs

* Remove any existing flooring or carpet from the stairs. * Ensure the stair risers and treads are clean, level, and free of debris. * Install underlayment on the treads and risers to provide a smooth surface and noise reduction.

2. Install the Stair Nose

* Cut the stair nose to the length of the tread. * Apply construction adhesive to the back of the stair nose. * Position the stair nose on the front edge of the tread and press firmly. * Secure the stair nose with nails or screws if desired.

3. Start Installing the Flooring

* Measure and cut the first laminate plank to the length of the tread. * Apply construction adhesive to the bottom of the plank. * Position the plank on the tread and slide it under the stair nose. * Tap the plank into place using a tapping block and hammer.

4. Continue Installing the Flooring

* Repeat step 3 to install the remaining planks on the tread. * Ensure the planks are tightly joined and free of gaps. * Use a circular saw or miter saw to cut the planks to fit around the stair nose.

5. Install the Flooring on the Risers

* Cut the laminate planks to the height of the risers. * Apply construction adhesive to the back of the planks. * Position the planks on the risers and tap them into place. * Use a tapping block and hammer to secure the planks.

6. Finishing Touches

* Caulk the seams between the planks and the stair nose. * Vacuum or sweep any debris from the stairs. * Allow the adhesive to dry completely before using the stairs.

Tips

* Use a heavy-duty underlayment designed for stairs to provide added support and durability. * Test fit the planks before applying adhesive to ensure a proper fit. * Notch the planks around any obstructions, such as newel posts or handrails. * Allow for a small gap along the edges of the planks for expansion and contraction. * Seal the flooring with a clear finish for added protection and durability.
