How to Install Laminate Flooring Around a Door Frame

Installing laminate flooring around a door frame requires careful planning and precise cuts. By following these steps, you can achieve a professional-looking finish that will enhance the overall appearance of your room.

Materials Required

  • Laminate flooring
  • Underlayment
  • Door casing
  • Trim pieces
  • Circular saw or miter saw
  • Measuring tape
  • Pencil
  • Hammer
  • Nails

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Measure and Cut the Underlayment:

Measure the area around the door frame where the laminate flooring will be installed. Cut the underlayment to the appropriate size and place it in position.

2. Install the Laminate Flooring:

Start by installing the laminate flooring planks around the perimeter of the door frame. Measure and cut each plank to fit snugly against the frame. Use a tapping block and hammer to securely lock the planks together.

3. Trim the Door Casing:

Measure and mark the point where the door casing will overlap the laminate flooring. Use a circular saw or miter saw to cut the casing at a 45-degree angle. Repeat the process for the opposite side of the casing.

4. Install Trim Pieces:

Cut the trim pieces to fit around the door frame. Use a hammer and nails to secure the pieces in place. The trim pieces will cover the edges of the flooring and provide a transition between the flooring and the casing.

5. Reinstall the Door:

Hang the door back into the door frame. Check to ensure the door opens and closes smoothly without any interference from the flooring or trim. If necessary, adjust the door hinges or trim pieces until the door operates properly.

6. Finishing Touches:

Caulk any gaps between the flooring, trim pieces, and door frame. This will prevent moisture from entering and damaging the flooring. Install baseboards around the perimeter of the room to complete the installation.

Tips

* Use a moisture barrier underlayment to protect the flooring from moisture in the subfloor. * Cut the laminate flooring planks slightly shorter than the actual length to prevent buckling. * Allow the flooring to acclimate to the room temperature for 24 hours before installing. * Wear safety glasses and ear protection while using power tools. * If you are unsure about any part of the installation process, consult a professional flooring installer.
