How to Install Floating Cork Flooring on Concrete: A Step-by-Step Guide

Installing floating cork flooring on concrete is a great way to add warmth and style to your home. This type of flooring is easy to install and can be completed in a weekend. Here are the steps on how to do it:

Tools and Materials

  • Cork flooring planks
  • Concrete adhesive
  • Notched trowel
  • Utility knife
  • Measuring tape
  • Pencil
  • Tapping block
  • Safety glasses
  • Dust mask

Step 1: Prepare the Concrete Surface

The first step is to prepare the concrete surface. This means cleaning it thoroughly and removing any dust or debris. You should also fill in any cracks or holes with concrete patch.

Step 2: Apply the Concrete Adhesive

Once the concrete surface is prepared, you can apply the concrete adhesive. Use a notched trowel to spread the adhesive evenly over the concrete. Be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions for the specific adhesive you are using.

Step 3: Place the Cork Flooring Planks

Once the adhesive has been applied, you can start placing the cork flooring planks. Begin by laying the first plank along the longest wall in the room. Use a tapping block and a hammer to tap the planks into place. Be sure to stagger the joints of the planks for a more secure installation.

Step 4: Cut the Planks to Fit

As you reach the end of each row of planks, you will need to cut the last plank to fit. Use a utility knife to score the plank where you want to cut it. Then, snap the plank along the score line.

Step 5: Install the Trim

Once all of the planks have been installed, you can install the trim. This will help to hide the edges of the flooring and give it a finished look. Use a brad nailer to attach the trim to the wall.

Step 6: Enjoy Your New Floor!

Your new floating cork flooring is now installed and ready to be enjoyed! Be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions for care and maintenance to keep your floor looking its best for years to come.
