How to Install Ez Plank Laminate Flooring on Stairs

Installing EZ Plank laminate flooring on stairs can be a daunting task, but it doesn't have to be. With the right tools and materials, you can achieve a professional-looking finish that will last for years to come. Here are the essential steps to follow:

Materials You'll Need:

  • EZ Plank laminate flooring
  • Stair nosing
  • Underlayment
  • Adhesive
  • Tape measure
  • Circular saw
  • Hammer or nail gun
  • Tapping block

Step 1: Prepare the Stairs

Remove any existing flooring or carpet from the stairs. Clean the surface thoroughly to remove any dirt or debris. Install underlayment on the stairs to provide a level surface and reduce noise.

Step 2: Measure and Cut the Planks

Measure the length of each stair and cut the EZ Plank planks accordingly. Use a circular saw to make clean, straight cuts. Cut the planks slightly shorter than the length of the stair to leave a small gap for expansion.

Step 3: Apply Adhesive

Apply adhesive to the back of the EZ Plank planks. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for proper application.

Step 4: Install the Planks

Start installing the planks from the bottom step. Align the first plank with the edge of the stair and press it into place. Use a tapping block and hammer or nail gun to secure the planks to the stairs.

Step 5: Install the Stair Nosing

Cut the stair nosing to the length of each stair. Apply adhesive to the underside of the stair nosing and firmly press it into place over the edge of the flooring. Use a tapping block and hammer or nail gun to secure the stair nosing.

Step 6: Finish the Installation

Continue installing the planks and stair nosing on the remaining steps. Once all the planks are in place, remove any excess adhesive and clean the surface with a damp cloth. Allow the flooring to cure for the recommended time before walking on it.

Tips:

  • Use a level to ensure that the planks are level before securing them.
  • Leave a small gap between the planks and the walls or risers to allow for expansion.
  • If you encounter any gaps between the planks, fill them with wood filler or caulk.
  • Protect the flooring by placing mats or rugs in high-traffic areas.

By following these steps carefully, you can successfully install EZ Plank laminate flooring on your stairs and enjoy a beautiful, durable finish that will enhance the look of your home for years to come.
