Preparing the Tile Surface

Ensure that the tile surface is clean, level, and in good condition. Remove any loose or damaged tiles and repair any cracks or unevenness. Vacuum or sweep the surface thoroughly to remove dust and debris. Use a featheredge sander or sanding sponge to smooth any rough edges or transitions between tiles.

Laying the Underlayment

Install an underlayment over the tile surface to provide a moisture barrier, sound absorption, and a level base for the hardwood flooring. Choose an underlayment compatible with both tile and engineered hardwood and cut it to fit the room's size. Overlap the underlayment by a few inches at the seams and secure it using tape or a stapler.

Installing the Hardwood Flooring

Plan the layout of the hardwood flooring, taking into consideration the room's dimensions and the direction of natural light. Start by laying a row of flooring along one of the longest walls. Use spacers between the planks to ensure consistent gaps and straight lines. Secure the planks to the underlayment using a nailer or stapler designed for engineered hardwood flooring.

Trim and Finishing

Once the flooring is installed, trim the edges around the perimeter of the room using a jigsaw or reciprocating saw. Cut the planks to fit around obstacles such as doorways and molding. Install transition strips or thresholds where the hardwood flooring meets other flooring surfaces, such as carpet or laminate.

Additional Considerations

Moisture Protection: Use a moisture barrier between the tile and the underlayment to prevent moisture from wicking up and damaging the hardwood flooring.
Acclimation: Allow the engineered hardwood flooring to acclimate to the room's temperature and humidity for several days before installation.
Expansion Gaps: Leave expansion gaps around the perimeter of the room and around obstacles to allow the flooring to expand and contract without buckling.
