Allure Flooring Installation Over Concrete: Essential Aspects

Installing Allure flooring over concrete is a popular choice for homeowners seeking a durable, stylish, and cost-effective flooring solution. However, proper installation techniques are crucial to ensure the flooring's performance and longevity. Here are the essential aspects of Allure flooring installation over concrete:

Surface Preparation

A clean and level concrete surface is essential for a successful Allure flooring installation. Remove any existing flooring, dirt, debris, or grease from the concrete. Grind down any uneven areas or protrusions to achieve a flat surface. Patch any cracks or holes with a concrete repair compound.

Moisture Barrier

Concrete can retain moisture, which can damage Allure flooring. To prevent moisture penetration, install a moisture barrier between the concrete and the flooring. Use a polyethylene vapor barrier with a thickness of at least 6 mils or an approved moisture reduction underlayment.

Underlayment

An underlayment provides cushioning, noise reduction, and moisture protection. For Allure flooring, use an underlayment specifically designed for floating floor installations. It should be at least 3 mm thick and have a density of at least 1.5 lbs. per square foot.

Flooring Installation

Begin installing the Allure flooring by placing planks along the longest wall. Align the first row and lightly tap them together using a tapping block or a rubber mallet. Continue installing subsequent rows, staggering the seams for stability. Use spacers to maintain a consistent gap around the perimeter of the flooring.

Expansion Gaps

Allure flooring requires expansion gaps around the perimeter and any fixed objects to allow for natural expansion and contraction. Leave a gap of approximately 1/4 inch around the edges of the room and around obstacles like columns or walls.

Transition Moldings

Transition moldings connect Allure flooring to other flooring types or create a smooth transition between different rooms. Select moldings specifically designed for LVT flooring and install them using appropriate adhesives or fasteners.

Finishing Touches

Once the flooring is installed, remove spacers and install baseboards to cover the expansion gaps. You can also add rugs or runners to protect high-traffic areas and enhance the aesthetics of the room.

Maintenance and Care

Maintaining Allure flooring over concrete is relatively easy. Regularly sweep, vacuum, or mop the floor with a mild cleaning solution and avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners. Occasional deep cleaning with a steam mop or professional cleaner is recommended.
