Allen and Roth Laminate Flooring Installation Instructions: A Comprehensive Guide

Installing laminate flooring can be a rewarding home improvement project that can transform the look and feel of your space. Allen and Roth laminate flooring is a popular choice for its durability, affordability, and ease of installation. To ensure a successful installation, it's crucial to follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully.

1. Preparation

Before you start installing the flooring, make sure you have all the necessary tools and materials. You'll need a tape measure, utility knife, spacers, tapping block, underlayment, and of course, the laminate flooring planks. It's also essential to prepare the subfloor by making it level, smooth, and free of debris.

2. Acclimation

Allow the laminate flooring planks to acclimate to the room's temperature and humidity for at least 24 hours before installation. This will help prevent buckling or warping. Stack the planks flat and let them rest for the recommended time.

3. Laying the Underlayment

The underlayment provides a moisture barrier, cushioning, and improves sound absorption. Roll out the underlayment perpendicular to the direction of the flooring planks and seal the seams with tape. Trim any excess underlayment around the edges of the room.

4. Starting the First Row

Begin installing the flooring by measuring and cutting the first plank to fit along a wall with a tongue side facing outwards. Insert a spacer between the plank and the wall to ensure an expansion gap. Tap the plank into place using a tapping block and hammer.

5. Assembling the Rows

Continue adding planks to the first row by aligning the tongue and groove edges and tapping them together. Use spacers to maintain consistent gaps. For the last plank in a row, measure, cut, and tap it into place, ensuring a snug fit against the wall.

6. Staggering the Joints

To create a more natural and durable floor, stagger the joints between the rows. Start the second row with a plank that is at least 8 inches shorter than the first plank in the previous row. This will help prevent long, continuous lines of joints.

7. Tapping and Tightening

As you lay each plank, use a tapping block and hammer to gently tap it into place. Ensure that the joints are tight and the planks are level. You may need to adjust the spacers or use a pry bar to tighten the joints.

8. Cutting Around Obstacles

When you encounter obstacles such as doorways or pipes, you'll need to make precise cuts in the flooring planks. Use a jigsaw or utility knife to cut around the obstacle, leaving a small gap for expansion.

9. Baseboards and Trim

Once the flooring is installed, you can install baseboards and trim to finish the look. Use a nail gun or adhesive to secure the baseboards to the wall and conceal the expansion gap. Caulk any gaps between the baseboards and the flooring for a professional finish.

10. Maintenance

To keep your Allen and Roth laminate flooring looking its best, follow these simple maintenance tips: sweep or vacuum regularly, mop occasionally with a mild cleaner, and avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials. Protect the flooring from moisture by wiping up spills immediately.
