Essential Aspects of Mirage Engineered Flooring Installation Guide

Installing Mirage engineered flooring is a rewarding home improvement project that can enhance the beauty and value of your home. By following the manufacturer's installation guide carefully, you can ensure a professional-looking finish that will last for years to come. Here are the essential aspects to keep in mind during the installation process:

1. Subfloor Preparation

The foundation for a successful flooring installation is a well-prepared subfloor. The subfloor should be level, flat, and dry. If the subfloor is not level, use a self-leveling compound to smooth out any unevenness. If the subfloor is not flat, you may need to install a layer of plywood or backerboard to create a smooth surface.

2. Vapor Barrier

A vapor barrier is essential for preventing moisture from seeping up from the subfloor into the flooring. Install a 6-mil polyethylene vapor barrier over the entire subfloor, overlapping the seams by 6 inches and taping them together with vapor barrier tape.

3. Underlayment

An underlayment provides a cushion and sound barrier between the subfloor and the flooring. Mirage recommends using a 3mm cork underlayment with an attached vapor barrier. Roll out the underlayment over the entire subfloor, overlapping the seams by 6 inches and taping them together with underlayment tape.

4. Flooring Installation

Start installing the flooring in the corner of the room that is most visible. Use a spacer to ensure a 1/4-inch gap around the perimeter of the room. Tap the flooring planks together tightly using a tapping block and a hammer. Stagger the end joints of the planks by at least 6 inches.

5. Moldings and Transitions

Moldings and transitions are used to finish the edges of the flooring and to create smooth transitions between different flooring surfaces. Install baseboards around the perimeter of the room to cover the expansion gap. Use transition strips to connect the flooring to other flooring surfaces, such as carpet or tile.

Additional Tips

  • Allow the flooring to acclimate to the room temperature for at least 48 hours before installing it.
  • Do not install the flooring in areas that are subject to moisture, such as bathrooms or laundry rooms.
  • Use a damp mop to clean the flooring regularly. Do not use abrasive cleaners or waxes.
  • Protect the flooring from scratches by using furniture pads and rugs.
By following these essential aspects of the Mirage engineered flooring installation guide, you can ensure a beautiful and long-lasting flooring installation.
