How To Install Allure Grip Strip Resilient Plank Flooring
Installing Allure Grip Strip resilient plank flooring is a straightforward process that can be completed by do-it-yourselfers with basic tools and some planning. Here are the essential steps to ensure a successful installation:
1. Prepare the Subfloor: The subfloor must be clean, level, and dry. Remove any existing flooring, baseboards, and quarter-rounds. Repair any unevenness or cracks in the subfloor using a self-leveling compound or patching material.
2. Determine the Layout: Plan the layout of the planks to minimize waste and ensure a visually appealing result. Start by finding the center point of the room and working outwards. Use a chalk line or laser level to create a straight starting line.
3. Install the First Row: With the starting line established, place the first plank along the line, leaving a small expansion gap around the perimeter (about 1/4 inch). Use a spacer to maintain the gap. Press down firmly on the plank to engage the Grip Strip.
4. Continue Laying Planks: Continue laying subsequent rows by aligning the Grip Strip of each plank with the grooved edge of the previous plank. Stagger the end joints of the planks by at least 6 inches for strength. Use a tapping block and hammer to gently tap the planks into place.
5. Cut Planks to Fit: When you reach obstacles such as doorways or corners, measure and cut the planks to fit. Use a sharp utility knife or a power miter saw for precision cuts. Make sure to leave the expansion gap around the perimeter.
6. Install Transition Strips: If you are transitioning from Allure flooring to another type of flooring, such as carpet or tile, install transition strips to cover the gap and provide a smooth transition.
7. Cut and Install Quarter-Rounds: Once the flooring is installed, cut and install quarter-rounds around the perimeter to cover the expansion gap and provide a finished look. Use a miter box to create 45-degree angles for a clean fit.
8. Remove Spacers and Clean: After the flooring is complete, remove the spacers around the perimeter and vacuum or sweep the floor to remove any debris.
By following these steps, you can successfully install Allure Grip Strip resilient plank flooring, creating a durable and stylish floor in your home.
