Assessing the Floor's Levelness

Use a leveling tool to measure any deviations. Deviations of more than 3 millimeters (1/8 inch) over a 1-meter (39-inch) span indicate a need for leveling.

Leveling the Subfloor

Achieving a level subfloor is paramount for a successful laminate flooring installation. You can accomplish this through self-leveling compounds, sanding, or leveling mats. Self-leveling compounds quickly fill in depressions and create a smooth, even surface. Alternatively, sanding high points can remove bumps and ridges. Preventing Moisture Damage

Install a vapor barrier between the subfloor and the underlayment to prevent moisture penetration from below.
